Last year ago the Phoenix Club joined
the United German'American Committee, which is
dedicated to cre» ate a large
German Museum in Washington, D.C. The Museum will be
totally dedicated to document the invaluable
contributions made by German Immigrants
in the more then 300 years since the
first Germans came to to our new Home, the United
States.
Today, I am proud to announce that we
have taken the first step to turn our dream into
reality. Thanks to the heirs of an
immigrant brew master from Thuringen, we will be
moving our museum office into their
Family Heritage Mansion, the Heurich Mansion, on
Dupont Circle in Washington D.C. The
Heurich Mansion already is on the "must see" list
of many Washington Heritage Tour Operators.
The moving-in date is set for May 1/01,
and we have estimated a year transition period
from the current exhibits to the ones
we have planned. Currently, the 36room mansion,
with a dining hall for 120 people,
is being surveyed by our architect, who will conduct
a layout study and make his recommendations.
A lot of people volunteered their time
and money to get us to this point, and it is truly
exciting for us, the Phoenix Club,
to participate in this great Gemeinschaftswerk, as I so
often have called it.
I believe, that ifwe are to succeed,
we German Immigrants need to show a United Front and
individually become members and supporters
of this great undertaking. Your contributions
are tax deductible. Please join this
worthwhile cause and send your check of $25.00, 50.00,
$100.00 or more to:
